Gaia Shasta Hotel – Environmentally Friendly

It's one thing to claim you're environmentally friendly. It's another to prove it in everything you do. Gaia Shasta Hotel, the first entirely eco-friendly hotel in the Shasta Cascade Region of Northern California, does just that. Read how Gaia, Greek for Mother Earth, lives up to her name.

LEED Certified

The Gaia Shasta Hotel just recently received its LEED Silver Certification. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. For more information visit the USGBC website.

Low Flow

Water is our most precious resource. Low flush toilets and low flow showerheads were installed in every guestroom at Gaia Shasta Hotel. Our low flush toilets save over half a gallon of water with each flush compared to regular toilets. Native and drought resistant landscape around the hotel also helps reduce water use.

Let the Sun Shine In

Tubular skylights reduce the need for electricity at Gaia Shasta Hotel. Reflecting the sun's rays, these tubes diffuse light evenly throughout the room. They provide enough natural light indoors that sometimes we don't even need to flip a switch for days.

Recycled Resources

That cushy carpet you're walking on? How about the beautifully sleek bathroom tile and granite accents? All recycled. All of our carpet contains post consumer recycled materials in the backing, fiber, and pad; even our bathrooms are decked out in recycled tiles and granite.

Promoting Environmental Sustainability

We believe that every bit helps, no matter how big or small. We make it easy for guests to recycle and conserve resources when they stay at Gaia Shasta Hotel. Recycle bins are located in every guestroom and throughout the property, complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby rather than delivered to every guestroom, and guests are encouraged to reuse their bath towel.
